Is living at home for college a stupid idea?

It's not stupid. It's probably smart. But no, it's not as fun.

I went to a downtown university so I lived at home and commuted from the suburbs. Sure, I missed out on some elements of living on campus, but I made enough friends and crashed on plenty of couches over the years to still have a great time.

I don't think it affected my work prospects at all. I still got internships and made connections.

Then, with the money I saved by not paying rent for those four years, I was able to make a down payment on a condo a couple of years after graduating, and have benefitted from being in the housing market. The vast majority of my friends who lived on campus are still renting, 10+ years later.
