You’ll miss Obama when he’s gone: Why Obama will be remembered as a good President and maybe a great one

People bitched about HIM. No one bitched about the shit around him. Like the economy. Now people remember him as though he drove the economy.

Obama will not have that benefit. The economy IS better than in 2009, but that is not the same measure as the 1999 economy being better than the 1992 economy. 1992 was already good. 1999 was a historical anomaly unlikely to be seen again until the next singularity.

Here is the problem: the Government under Obama and Bush saved us from a failure of the economy that could have driven us into a permanent poverty. "Main Street vs Wall Street" is bullshit. It was all one boat. One goes and the the entire system fails. Not fails like "ok, lets start over" - fails as in complete loss of everything, with no realistic chance of recovery for generations.

That is a HUGE accomplishment. Bush does not get credit for preventing the collapse. He gets blamed for bailing out wall street. Obama does not get credit for preventing the collapse. He gets blamed because the "recovery" was not fast enough. Because they did such a good job at preventing the complete failure of the system, people dont realize how bad it was, so they think of it as just a large downturn that obama should have returned from, and the return has not been "strong enough."

Unless we, as in the world, come to terms with how close to failure we actually came, and recognize how the measure should be "we didnt" rather than "but wages have not gone up," Obama wont be seen in the light he should be. Neither will Bush, or Bernanke for that matter.

Any other three people and the entire western world would be under a completely ruined economy. Imagine if Greece was the best you could hope for. That ruined.
