The government welfare system has caused the cost of many necessities of life to rise in price. We no longer have a free market, the market is manipulated and it is combined with a capitalist system that now favors maximum profits over anything else. If we had a true free market, I do think it would be easier for many people to change jobs, relocate, etc..

Don't worry though, the race to the bottom is just getting started. First time marriage rates for those born in the 80s and 90s are the worst they've ever been. Family formation is slowing to a crawl, mostly because if issues like this. It is very costly to raise a kid, most folks don't have trust funds to make it easier to quit a job, still provide for a family, go back to school, etc. to make a change. Most of our major cities are already half third world status in some areas. It won't be long before that level of lifestyle slowly starts spreading through middle class suburbs.
