Keeping a pile of poor condition varmint rifles, service rifles, pool cues, and metal armor in a box at your safe house you accumulate as you kill baddies. Visit the Mojave outpost every once in a while to repair them all to 100% and using them as better repair kits to quickly 100% your guns and armor in between quest.

I mean you still need high repair skills to make the most of repair kits and those are better reserved for the really rare stuff like mini-guns and missile launchers.
