In London rent a house in zone 8 or 9 to save rental costs but spend a lot of money to travel to work or rent an expensive 1 bedroom flat in zone 1 or 2 and save money on travel costs

Man I used to love living in Zone 2 (Kilburn) for convenient transport links (so many good bus routes), and how easy it was to get to gigs. But I was also paying £750 for a tiny, moldy, freezing bedsit with no double glazing on a noisy road. And an asshole landlord who only allowed the heating on for an hour in the morning, and hour in the evening. I basically got home from work in winter and got straight into bed. The blinds moved if the wind was blowing outside.

Made the move to Zone 4, 6 years ago. I've got a nice landlord, so my rent on a top floor 1-bed flat has gone from £750 to £850 in the last 6 years. Yeah, it's the bloody suburbs, and there's nowt out here, but I've got space. That said, I've been wanting to move for the last 6 months, since they cut down all the trees along the railway track next to my house and it looks bleak AF now. But I won't find anywhere this size, this nice, for this rent in London, and I don't know where to move outside of London, even though I really wouldn't mind getting out at this point.
