Long-term adjuncts?

This job alone is not sustainable. When I started as an adjunct 20+ years ago the pay discrepancy between FT and adjuncts wasn’t that bad. Adjunct pay has since stagnated. I have always worked 16-20 classes a year, spread between 3 campuses. Which was fine when I was in my 30’s and 40’s. At 60 it’s exhausting. Volunteered to prove myself worthy of a FT position. Here I am today still busting my butt as an adjunct. I have applied for several FT positions and never even had an interview despite being fully qualified and meeting the minimum requirements.
I no longer love my job. I feel exploited. Im hoping to retire early this year because the lack of pay and respect has taken a toll on me emotionally.
Stop looking for meaningful work and look for something that pays the bills and helps you enjoy life. While work should be enjoyable it should also pay a living wage and allow you time to enjoy life.
