Long termers need hope thread help!

Definitely consult your primary care doctor before doing any of this, but there are what’s called protease inhibitors found in food that naturally occur. A protease is essentially the enzyme that breaks down protein. Soybeans are the most powerful protease inhibitor, but it only corresponds to 1 of the 4 types. Two of the others are egg whites and lima beans. The downside of consuming protease inhibitors is that it makes your pancreas work overtime as it produces enzymes that breakdown protein, but if you’re consuming something that prevents that from happening, the pancreas just makes more to compensate and it potentially puts you at higher risk for pancreatic cancer if you consume too much protease inhibitors. The trouble is, there really is no standard for how much is safe to eat, especially from food sources rather than pharmaceutical sources. Not many studies seem to have been done on protease inhibitors from food sources, but I have seen drugs that are protease inhibitors being tested. Definitely don’t go overboard and consult your primary care doctor about it. If you do decide to consume those foods, make sure your pancreas is being monitored as well as your gut health overall by your doctor.
