Looked up a guy in the local paper who got arrested for possession of heroin and a hypodermic syringe. Looked him up on FB. Notice the March 3rd date. His arrest date is March 4th. Don't fuck with heroin.

Eh. But in situations like that, it isn't exactly a bad choice on its own that makes a person wind up that way. Like obviously being aware and educated about the consequences of addiction makes a person have less of a tendency to try that stuff, but quite a few people who are addicted to opiates start taking them as a medicine prescribed to them. Which is legal, and seems totally fine and problem free. That's why it's so dangerous. That's why pharmacists and doctors place extra caution on drugs like percocet and oxys, because people can often be unaware of the issues with them going outside the lines of the prescription directions like people do with so many medicines, both prescribed and OTC. It doesn't seem like a huge problem, especially when you're young/naive. Like at first everything is great because they're helping your pain from your injury, but then people end up taking them more frequently, out of habit, because once they wear off you feel everything and it suddenly seems unbearable because you're used to those pains being masked. Then eventually, the original prescription wears out. So you've got to get more (sometimes to avoid withdrawal, sometimes because you want more because at that point it becomes habitual, sometimes doctors just don't care and refill prescriptions). It's awesome you were self aware enough to avoid that happening to you, thank goodness, truly. Because there are people who wind up in that situation who aren't aware they have a problem until after they already developed it. The documentary Cottonland (Nance Ackerman) really helped me understand how something so easily avoidable can happen to otherwise smart people. Worth a watch if you're ever bored! I'm glad you're well and not on that path. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, even people that are reckless enough to voluntarily try dangerous drugs in an illegal manner as experiments etc.
