Strictly as a player in the NHL of considerable talent and skill, yes he has a trade value. Where that value becomes null is when you look at Edler outside of a vacuum, ie in the real world.
Therefore, regardless if he is the most sought after defenceman in the entire league (he isn't), his insistence on not waiving his NTC kills any trade value he might otherwise have. Other GMs are not going to waste time in trying to acquire him because it's not up to JB, it's on AE.
For better or worse we are stuck with him until the expiration of his contract, and if the terms are not agreeable to both parties on an extension, then he will enter free agency and sign with a team he can strike a deal with.
