Lord of the Rings Weekly Chapters Discussion. Book I: Prologue through "Three's Company"

I just don't understand why people have a problem with someone else interpreting the way they want to interpret it. You don't see me here calling your opinions ridiculous. I've read the books three times. I've seen the movies a bunch. Its possible my recollection of things have meshed, but so what. I recall in reading through the books the feeling that pipeweed is weed, just as well as I do in the movies. My Fatty Lumpkin reference has nothing to do with how funny the name sounds, but rather how I have heard joints called exactly that terminology. Could be the circles I've traveled in. Might just be projection onto Tolkien my own thoughts. The point is that people can interpret it however they want, and as Tolkien never explicitly stated "no, its definitely not marijuana, its certainly tobacco", I don't see how my opinion could be wrong.

I normally don't care about the votes at all, but in this circumstance it annoyed me because this is supposed to be discussion. I guess only orthodox points that everyone has already said and believe are welcome in this "discussion".
