I lost 10 pounds by eating healthier and walking every day

How do you track your steps? I wonder if your step count is measured differently than the way the Apple Watch measures it? I’m a teacher, so I am standing up the majority of the day and move around a lot at work. I walk all over campus, go for walks after work, and then I’m active at home doing chores for a while. I still generally only get to around 8k-10k. I’ve compared my steps with friends who are also trying to be more active, and they’re getting similar step counts. When I go for multi-hour long hikes or walks, I may get around 12k. But I’m not necessarily keeping track of how many steps I get for particular activities, I’m just referring to my watch’s data throughout the day.
