I see a lot of memes with 16 year olds having jobs. Is this a thing ? Should I have a job at 16?

Im asking if its a social norm there in the usa and canada. I was living in Greece couple months ago (now Im in Canada) and I literally never heard of 16 year olds having formal jobs. Most of us worked only at holidays on a some friends' business if we wanted to have some extra money but it wasn't the norm to have a job or drive a car, actually it's illegal to drive a car under the age of 18 in Greece.

I in a cultural shock months now and I don't think I have recovered yet. I have lots of questions. For example, do most people on my age work after school? Is it considered unacceptable not to work? Whats your responsibilities as a teenager ? My dad is not that good at explaining and gets mad easily. Also, I don't k ow any other person outside of family here so Im kinda isolated socially.

also who the fuck is "us" ?
