Love the HTC Vive but PSVR is the one poised to bring VR to the mainstream

Your post is full of assumptions that are wrong. I get youre stating your opinion, but

"I think everyone deep down knows that the Vive is simply not a consumer friendly VR headset"

and

"but no one has a PC build that can 100% guarantee that every game runs smoothly on the Vive

and

Sony requires developers to guarantee no dropped frames

and

Sony has some big time developers working on their platform so quality of games will be there biggest advantage

Actually, its all bad.

Let me start off by saying that I own an HTC Vive and absolutely love it. It was a large financial commitment to make when I purchased one months ago but I don't for one second regret making that decision. I play it everyday and It truly is one of the most amazing experiences I have had in years. While the Vive is an experience that everyone should try at least once and it will blow you away, I believe the PSVR is the one that will make VR popular and will give it the credibility it deserves. I think everyone deep down knows that the Vive is simply not a consumer friendly VR headset. The cost is what everyone brings up first. However, I believe the biggest frustration is the headset can also be difficult to make run smoothly with all games. We frankly are at the beginning of VR so grace should be given but no one has a PC build that can 100% guarantee that every game runs smoothly on the Vive. I've seen many posts with people with GTX 1080s and equally powerful processors who still experience frame rate drops in a number of games. For someone like me who needs to upgrade his graphics card and processor, it is incredibly frustrating not knowing where to best spend my hard earned money because there is no guarantee that it will improve the quality of my games. This is going to make it very difficult for the Vive to break in the mainstream and less accessible to your average joe. Enter the PSVR. Simply plug into the console and you're set to go. Sony requires developers to guarantee no dropped frames, even for standard PS4s so that won be an issue. A large majority of gamers own a PS4 console so buying a Headset is a lot less of a financial commitment. Sony has some big time developers working on their platform so quality of games will be there biggest advantage. Sony also makes a profit on their headsets versus taking a loss on their consoles so they can encourage developers to create for VR with greater profit returns. I've also heard and read a number of people who have tried the PSVR themselves and were very impressed with the headset. Even those who have played or own Vives have said how great of an experience it is and is not far behind the Vive in terms capabilities. Sony could be limiting number of PSVRs available for preorder so create the illusion of high demand but pre orders go out in minutes every time the system goes on sale. I still think the Vive is a successful system in its own rights and I love the use of roomscale. I would choose a Vive anyday over the PSVR but I believe that the likely popularity of PSVR will be a good thing for the Vive and VR in general long term.
