I love MMOs. I love sandbox games. I love high-stakes PvP. I love Star Trek and sci-fi. Why is it so freaking hard to get into EVE?!?

A lot of posters here have told you about why you are wrong, but I'm going to answer your question - why do you not like EVE - here may be why:

The truth is - EVE is absolutely not for everyone. The gameplay is completely unique, it is extremely intellectual

For example, you talk about AC. I also played AC years and years ago, and on DT, if you got jumped by 5 people, if you were more skilled you could easily win. Because you pressed the keys to dodge their attacks and hit them with your attacks more effectively. In EVE, pressing keys only helps so much. You wont be able to wreck people because you're better than them like you would at quake. Some will say, kite brawler etc etc, but it all boils down to, what ship you are in, what ship they are in, and then doing the right thing. PVP is more about intelligence and scouting - do you know what you are fighting, do you know how many players are in the surrounding systems as reinforcements - then performing the correct motor tasks properly to your tactics. This has both up and down sides. And yes, is it absolutely possible to perform these tasks more quickly and more accurately, but it isn't 'the same' as a FPS for example.

One thing that is unique in eve is group pvp. Group pvp has a unique and very intense feel to it, with one 'fc' often leading any group and making the main calls. Supporting them not only will you have your standard ships that will have to play properly but logstics, scouts, etc. In a fleet everyone has to work together and communicate effectively - back when I played AC, I'd just group up with 1 or 2 buds and we'd go roll groups full of Blood-lites or something, without any communication, other than occasionally calling a target to focus.

If you like how the game plays, and the concept of the game, it's for you - if you don't, it isn't. PVP is more intense and more fun than missions, but if you don't like the controls of the combat, you aren't going to like it ever.

Another major downside is skill training. Even if you are gifted or farm the ISK for a ship, you may not be able to use it without the right 'skills' that give passive bonuses. Sometimes small, sometimes significant, but to equip the right modules, they are needed, which is huge. In my opinion, this design choice does not belong in the game any longer - but it is what it is.

I'm curious, who did you play on ACDT?
