I love a well researched takedown.

I think it’s unfair to vegans to lump us in with people who are anti-science, just for having a different moral code from yours, especially when the only consequences of those morals are that fewer animals are being harmed.

I believe that everyone should make their own choices, and it’s not my place to judge- but it bothers me when vegans are lumped in with anti-vaxxers, when the very definition of veganism is pro-vaccines.

‘Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.’

Vaccines fall under the bracket of ‘possible and practicable’, and it’s not practicable to forego vaccines, which is why most vegans don’t. There are vegans who are anti-vaxx I’m sure, but the two belief systems come from very different places- veganism isn’t contributing to anti-vaccination.

I’m vegan and a med student, and not anti-vaccination or anti-science in any way. I know how vaccines work, and I know that ‘Big pharma’ is a myth (too bad- I’d be even more interested in moving to the US for those big pharma cheques).

Veganism is also very beneficial for the environment, and painting it in a bad light does no good.

Sincerely, a vegan soon-to-be doctor.
