LPT: Ambulance personnel don't care if you've done illegal drugs. They need to know what you've taken to stop you dying, not to rat you out to the police. You have patient clinician confidentiality.

Sadly this is not true in the US. As a healthcare worker my state mandates that I disclose known drug use or possession to law enforcement personnel if they say they are conducting an investigation. Once upon a time it was a HIPAA violation to do so but now all facilities in my state are required to “cooperate with law enforcement by providing info when directly questioned about it to on duty officers”. Refusal to do so may result in criminal charges and 100% will result in termination. We get reminded of this at least twice a year now. “We don’t want our employees getting arrested or hurt because they refused to comply with an officers order so sign this acknowledgement saying you will abide by state law”. Still can’t find the law itself that all these employers are citing...
