LPT At the beginning of EVERY semester, make a dedicated folder for your class where you download and save all documents ESPECIALLY the SYLLABUS. Teachers try to get sneaky sometimes!

I’ve had a few terrible teachers like this, the class as a whole basically had proof that she was just grading based on names on the papers. She didn’t even read the essays at all, we tried swapping names and everyone got the same range of grades, we tried adding chunks nonsense text, still the same range of grades. We went to the dean, and guess what, the students got in trouble for trying to trick the teacher. I’ve also had a professor that gave the wrong midterm, and he wouldn’t change the grade because some of the students got passing grades (those students were ones taking the class again after failing or from other countries that needed to get re-certified).
