LPT: In the US and Canada, discussing your pay with peers is considered a protected activity. You cannot be fired for it or retaliated against in any way, even if it’s “against company policy” to do so.

It can be a dangerous game for tax penalties though, you can't just write things off because you feel like it. If it has shared use, you can only deduct or write off the portion used for work purposes. So like if you work from home, and you really want to do it right, you need to do the math. 40hrs/week, about 160hrs/month used for work out of the about 720hrs in a month, so you can consider 22% of your internet bill to be for work purposes.

Still can be worth it though. I was getting almost double the hourly rate by contracting at a monthly rate, with 40/hrs week specified. I hit 40 for the week and walked away. Hourly may have done OT, but not enough to hit my rate, and they still had to work those hours.
