LPT: If you are eating at a restaurant and you have a food allergy, please tell the waitress specifically what allergy it is instead of saying “no cheese, sour cream, etc.”. This can help us prevent cross contamination while your food is being prepared.

I used to work in the food industry. We would try to accommodate allergies. But honestly, the type of place we worked there were so many peanut ingredients, I talked to every single customer like that about how we will do our best but we can’t guarantee anything, so if they have a life threatening allergy I would suggest going elsewhere.

I don’t think you understand how it feels to do this 3 times a day, 4 days a week with you and a few coworkers or customers. Then you have to explain it to all those people. It becomes the only topic for the rest of the meal. I remember I went to Disney one time where my mom put on our meal plan than I had an allergy. Every single meal the manager comes over and has to confirm with you the allergy

I have survived a long time with this method and it works very well. I will ask about certain items if they contain something I’m allergic to, but I’ll just ask if it has shrimp or cashews. If the waiter asks me if I’m allergic I’ll tell the truth but I’m not about to walk into the restaurant and the first thing I mention is that I’m allergic. That’s just annoying.
