LPT: If you have a dash cam in your car and someone hits you, don't volunteer info that you have one. If they try to blame it on you, they'll get insurance fraud along with the fault of the accident.

This is a stupid life pro tip.

Insurance companies do not care if someone has tried to blame the other person, in fact we actively expect the average driver doesn't know the nuances of liability. Even if they give entirely different circumstances, upon receipt of proof, the worst case scenario is that we may refuse to let them renew their insurance and that's only if they have a history or being dodgy or have only been with us a very short amount of time. We will not notify the police, they won't get "hit with insurance fraud".

The exception to this is if they are claiming extreme person injury (whiplash near impossible to prove so normally just gets paid out unless we can find evidence you went skydiving the day after) but then that's only able to be claimed for if you actually are the innocent party. The driver in a fault incident cannot claim for PI under their own policy (in the UK, unsure about other countries)

If you don't tell the other person you have dash cam and then they try and blame you all that's gonna happen is you are causing longer liability discussions and it will take longer for your claim to be resolved
