LPT: if you ever need to call nine-one-one the first and most important thing to say is your location.

I was house-sitting for my boss for a weekend. She lives in a REALLY REALLY nice part of the town where nothing ever happens. I have my friends over for dinner and we're eating in the backyard patio. Suddenly, we hear a car engine roar down the street, a crash, and then every car alarm on the street goes off. By the time we get outside, there's a dude who runs up to us telling me how the driver is super drunk, he sideswiped like 5 cars on the street, and that he had to jump out of the moving car because the driver would not pull over. That was the one and only time I had to ever call 9-1-1. And I was surprised that no one else had called yet.

People are panicked, upset, angry, or otherwise emotional

It was rather unfamiliar for me, so I guess the operator kind of thought it was a joke based on my almost too level headed reactions.

Operator: "9-1-1, what is your emergency?"

Me: "Oh hello. Yeah um there was this drunk driver..."

Operator: "Is this an emergency?"

Me: "Uh. Yeah. I think so. A dude apparently jumped out of a moving car and the guy driving is really drunk. "

Operator: "Do you need an ambulance?"

Me: "Uh yeah that would be good. I think we might want the cops too for the driver. My friend's a doctor so she's looking him over, and he appears to be mostly ok, but yeah we might wanna get an ambulance here."

Operator: "Both are on their way to your location."

Me: "Thanks. Have a nice night."
