LPT: If you want a tattoo, hang a poster of it on your wall and wait a month. If you still like it afterwards, go and get it.

Honestly, if it takes all this to just convince yourself that you like a future tattoo, you probably just shouldn't get tattoos.

I'm covered in tattoos and this seems like advice from someone that is not. I have ones I thought about for a while and ones I decided on literally the morning before I went to the shop and it really makes no difference if the artist you go to is talented. Also, the artist is not going to just draw you a free poster so you can make the month-long decision of liking it, so hanging a poster of something similar is a waste of time because it won't look like that as the final product anyway.

The real LPT: If you want a tattoo, do your research and find an artist that you trust to handle the concept you're considering. At the end of the day, that tattoo is in their hands and their going to do their own interpretation of it so make sure you're confident in their ability above all else. No poster on the wall can change that.

Also, make sure you're okay with the way ink looks on your skin. Make sure you're okay with other people seeing it and whether or not you can cover it up if you need to. Make sure you like the color and size and shape on your chosen patch of skin.

These are the important things, not convincing yourself that a design looks good by putting it on your wall. Also, the artist is not going to just draw you a free poster so you can make the month-long decision of liking it, so hanging a poster of something similar is a waste of time because it won't look like that as the final product anyway.
