LPT: Be nice to customer service. They can sabotage your account.

I've had exactly ONE exception to this rule and it was when my dad was trying to change phone companies away from freedom mobile. He called them up because he needed to get his account number in order to change his phone number to the new company and the online service didn't have it listed. He asked for the account number after validating who he was and the person first asked "why" so he told them honestly that he wants to change his phone over to the parent company of theirs. The person didn't give him the number and instead starting reading the script for other plans that he could go with from their company if he stayed. My dad explained that he already paid the parent company for the new phone service and just needs the account number. The representative started the offers speech again until my dad was just fuming and yelled that he just wanted the account number and he's already paid for the service with the parent company. It took about an hour of arguing with the guy before the representative finally blurted out the account number as fast as he could in the hopes my dad wouldn't catch it. Luckily I wrote it down in time while the guy was speed-reading it out, but in that case the guy had his account number, was clearly allowed to give it since he did eventually, and was just screwing my dad around for some reason. I've never had another case where It's been justifiable to be upset with the worker but this was just insane.
