LPT: It's not about finding a career you're passionate about it's about finding a career you can tolerate so you can do the things you're passionate about

In my last interview for a sales role (that landed me the job), they asked what made me passionate about the job. And I told them how this industry has never really been an interest of mine, but what I’m truly passionate about is making a difference at the place I work. That my motivation comes from leaving the place better than I found it and ending each day knowing the company is in a better place because of something I did. Which is true.

I never thought I’d be working in the industry I’m about to be. But I couldn’t be more excited because I get to use my education/interests in my occupation and the pay/vacation gives me ample time to pursue my non-monetary interests.

I would argue that “tolerate” isn’t good enough. Find a position where you get to use your skills and talents, even if it’s not in an industry you expected to work in. You may be surprised by how much you enjoy it!
