LPT: In the tech field, learning to use simple analogies to explain complex processes will get you far in your career, since many managers in tech usually don't understand tech.

In my experience the opposite is true as well. If they can't understand you they think you're smart and know what you're talking about. I have known people that have built their entire careers talking about stuff they have completely no clue about but sound good to managers.

The same kind of people that will nod when they see me or other engineers nodding at a meeting, or only start laughing once they see a bunch of others laughing. I've even had these types of people disagree with me in a way that I couldn't even rebuke because what they said had nothing to do with what I was talking about initially. Now if I see a meeting that is about to go like that I just stop talking. The joys of working at a huge software company.
