LPT when dealing with young children, don't let them choose whatever they want, but rather give them options to choose from that you are also happy with. This way the child feels in control and you can know that the choice was something you feel comfortable with

It's a solid LPT in several ways for sure.

Kids have very little control in their life, the get bossed around constantly and hardly evey asks anyone their opinion on things that impact their day to day life. Someone asking the same "so you like trucks?" kind of question isn't the same thing. By trying to give options when you can it gives them a sense of sole control and actual input into the things that happen to them.

The only thing that there is obviously no room to budge on is when they're doing something that just isn't safe, they're about to break something and things like that. As much as options are great you still need to lay down the law when they get way out of bounds.
