LSV: "If you play Magic as a convicted rapist, people have a right to know"

I absolutely agree. Do sex offender not have to inform neighbors that they're a sex offender in many cases? Do professional sports organizations not ban athletes convicted of sex crimes?

In my line of work, I cannot associate with criminals. Period. And I know that there are large numbers of people in the same situation, be it for security-related reasons, those in the childcare industry, whatever. Such people NEED to know if there is a risk of playing with someone that could threaten their livelihood. I love Magic, and it's a privilege I enjoy. Why should I have to take pains to ensure I'm playing against decent human beings, or not play the game?

I have the right to know if someone I could be forced to play with at a large tournament is a sex offender. I have the right to choose whether or not to associate with such an individual.

They may have paid their debt to society. But why should we be concerned about their rights to "privacy" and "fair and equal treatment?" His victim(s) have the right to be safe; where was his concern for rights then? Where is the concern of the community at large?

I've seen posts at negative points for pointing out that childeren play this game. If, as a parent, I found out that my child was paired against a convicted sex offender and was not told by the event organizer, there would be reprecussions. Surely, there is a nonzero risk to tournament organizers of legal action if this information is not disclosed?

And it's deplorable that people have leapt to the defense of this man's rights. Good on folks for not having their heads far enough up their own asses to actually defend his actions, but time served or not, I don't want rapists playing the game while alleged cheaters become ostracized. Consistency is key here.
