The first question I want to ask is what interface are you using? What are you thinking about plugging a $1,000 mic into exactly?

If it's a lower end interface upgrade that for better built in pres and conversion and use the remainder on a lower cost mic in the $300-400 range. Audio technica 4033, at4040,, little blondies, akg c214 all pretty inexpensive and good. The new royer r10 just came out. There are a lot of choices in that range to check out that are very good stuff.

RME babyface pro, Apogee duet, universal audio etc. are good interfaces for this to get alongside the mic and be within budget and have upgraded AD DA and pres if you're currently using something on the lower end.

Then record at a high sample rate.
