I’ve only lucid dreamed once, on accident. Somebody told me a trick to lucid dream, and somehow a day or two later it happened in my dream. The trick they said was if you suspect you’re dreaming to plug your nose and cover your mouth, if you can breathe you’ll know you’re in a dream.

Well shortly after that I wake up in a dream amalgamation of an apartment and a house I’d previously lived in. I literally woke up inside this dream, in bed. Like in the movies. It felt surreal because usually my dreams start in the middle of stuff happening. I peaked out my bedroom door and a friend I don’t speak to anymore was making breakfast in my kitchen. I’d never let her in my house so that’s when I realized this was probably a dream, and that trick popped into my head.

I covered my mouth and plugged my nose and couldn’t breathe. I tried. I blew hard through my nose trying to breathe and accidentally blew snot on my hand. In my dream. The trick didn’t work exactly as described, but for some reason after that I knew I was in a dream and I walked around my dream bedroom and explored, walked out into the living room, and then woke up.

Never lucid dreamed again, but that one time was crazy.
