Lucky to receive what I believe is a 46-50 ball end tech (story and question in comments)

...haven't done a bit of polishing or sanding yet, only the light toothpaste scrub. This thing is probably like 80 years old, im sure it's fine after having its dirt and grime wiped away.

I was asking if I could sand and polish without doing any damage to the base metal, as I've heard some of these razors were made part zamac (I dont believe this one is, but im no expert).

And truthfully I think this was not a gold plated razor at all. It has a heavy brass smell after touching it, which an intact gold plating wouldn't have. And I don't see how there would be a way for the top of the top cap and safety bars on the bottom cap to have a fairly solid nickel plating, while the rest of the razor is sporting a brassy gold hue - if it was truly just a small bit of nickle bleeding through.

I dont believe these razors are rare or especially valued at all no? I see most people saying they go for like $10 maybe in this condition, and they're still found regularly. I do think it looks okay now that its cleaned up, but I'd just as soon use it to work on polishing and practicing my own electroplating sometime.
