M/20/6'1 165lbs > 175lbs [10 weeks] Pretty happy with my 10lb bulk (x-post r/fitness)

  • Height: 6'1 / 185cm

  • Weight: 165-175lb / 74-79kg

  • Duration: about 10/11 weeks

I was always afraid of bulking because I had recently lost quite a bit of fat. I felt I would just gain it all back. Finally I had enough of looking like a stick so decided to go hard in the gym and eat enough to gain about 0.5 to 1lb of weight per week.

Diet:

  • At first I found it extremely hard to eat even 2000 calories simply because I was used to eatring maybe 2 or 3 meals a day. Now I'm eating at 4000-4500 in 5 divided doses depending of whether I want to bulk or maintain. My advice is looking for foods that have a high calorie to cost ratio (example would be peanut butter, nuts, oats etc). An example meal would be 6 whole eggs + 3 bread slices + coffee.

Workout:

  • Day 1: Chest (weighted push ups, chest flyes, chest flyes incline, bench press, dumbell press, dumbell press incline, chest "extensions")

  • Day 2: Lats + forearms (weighted pullups, weighted chinups, weighted close grip pullups, dumbell row, barbell row, barbell row opposite grip, dumbell raise, dumbell fly)

  • Day 3: Legs + abs (lunges, stiff leg deadlift, deadlift, squat, leg extensions, leg extensions reverse, calf raises)

  • Day 4: Shoulders (dumbell press, seated dumbell raise, bent dumbell raise, horizontal raise, front raise, halo, dumbell press standing, dumbell shrugs, barbell shrugs, inner rotations, outer rotations)

  • Day 5: Arms (tricep dips weighted, bicep concentration curls, dumbbell tricep extensions, bicep curls, barbell tricep extensions, hammer curls, seated tricep extension, barbell curl)

Tips:

  • At first you may struggle to eat so much. Best way is just to power through it and soon it will become a norm to eat such a high volume of food.

  • Try to keep your weight gain to about 0.5lb per week to minimize any fat gain. Although you could always just go on a cut afterwards.

  • Stick to your routine! Doesn't matter if its SS or 5 day split, you won't see results if you workout on and off.

Finally I'll answer any questions you may have
