I’m 35 years old and have no idea what exactly is going on with Israel. Why is it such a polarizing subject?

I can see that you’ve gotten some of your information from biased sources as well. Israel’s attacks on Palestinians are not always justified. On many occasions, they’ve targeted peaceful citizens. Especially during non-violent protests. This sounds like a humanitarian crisis to me?

Additionally, before Israel was officially declared a country by the British, it WAS Palestine. There were people living there, families who had a life. Of course they’ll fight back if some people try to occupy their land. Though Palestine was unfortunately far too weak at the time to stop the occupation. They still are, and Israel’s attack’s on them are unjustified and unfairly reciprocated.

You can’t fully say they support human rights because they’ve violated it on numerous occasions.
