I’m afraid after over 25+ years I’m losing faith. Please help.

Jesus said, “God is spirit.” There will be times when prayer is answered immediately, and there will be times when prayer is answered later. If you’re communicating with God and expecting a clear verbal response, and immediately at that, I’d say you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. Remember to pray in his name (and that’s crucial; it must be in his name, and we as Christians need to know what that means), and do not doubt, and if you do so anything you ask will be answered to you, per the Lord’s own words.

But remember, “God is spirit.” How he answers us won’t necessarily be in a human manner. Sometimes he uses people to answer prayer, sometimes he uses the word to answer prayer, sometimes he uses music to answer prayer, sometimes he uses life circumstances to answer prayer, etc.

You have very strong faith to be expecting God’s presence in your prayer with him. But believing in his existence isn’t the whole battle. We need to believe in his name, too, and fully. For starters, God is love, and God is truth. If you love God, don’t be demanding an answer from him in prayer as if to put him to the test. The Israelites also questioned, “Is God even with us?” like this, and Jesus was tempted similarly to test the presence of God.

I hope you find more security in your faith.
