This has actually turned into a really interesting discussion - in particular, alluding to archaic and colonialist, Western tendencies of Romanticism and 'exoticism', 'Othering' and the noble savage. I imagine the "no ice" narrative is not so much about Giannis, at it is about our ability to recognize a lack of equity and feel better about ourselves in doing so.

It's a tired trope that inexplicably continued on into the 21st century. Just not as overtly as something like the 'human zoos' or 'indigenous spectacles' of World's Fairs in the early 1900's.
