I’m a reporter who investigated a Florida psychiatric hospital that earns millions by trapping patients against their will. Ask me anything.

I’m gonna have to play devils advocate here. These places suck it’s not fun being locked up and not being able to leave but these stories about people getting locked up against their will for a long Period of time to get more money are a bit of a stretch. I have a mental illness and have been hospitalized. People who are acting calm are released within a day usually maybe 3 at the most. People who are freaking out are held longer as they should because they aren’t acting stable and do need help. Sure it’s possible that someone might of been wrongly put in the hospital but if they were in a clear mental state within a day they would be able to realize that people who are acting calm are being released and they aren’t trapped. The only people I saw being held for long periods of time were literally yelling at the staff all day about how it’s an injustice that they were being held Prisoner. So if you guys are ever trapped in a mental hospital don’t freak out because it’s usually only for a few days
