I’m tired of people acting like having children is the most fulfilling thing a person could do

Ummm...

There actually is quite a bit of shaming going on in your original post. It does read as being pretty disrespectful to a whole group of people that you’ve decided to stick together under the same negative stereotype. I’m not sure if that was intentional, maybe you got a little carried away.

In some ways, it sounds pretty similar to the attitudes you are writing about. I don’t know a single person under the age of 60 that thinks or acts the way you are saying all parents think and act. And I’m a stay at home mom.

This kind of attitude is more a product of people that grew up when women just weren’t as big a part of the workforce. Its a real product of women not having as many options, so kids or family life actually was what happened more often than not. And if a woman was not working, well, life could be a lot more boring being alone. A lot more social activities revolved around being with other mothers and family activities, so you could literally get shut out of your community by not conforming to social norms.

It’s awesome that family life isn’t the only thing people can have anymore. But like all social shifts, it takes forever for enough of society to know people who chose another path that this becomes completely normal.
