Mackenzie Dern on her accent and speaking Portuguese

Always thought this was funny too, people acting as if she's faking it. When you spend a ton of time with people who speak a certain way, you start talking that way yourself. I'm from RI, a very distinctive accent, similar to a Boston accent. My roommate and best friend in college was from a small town outside Philly. People from Philly have a distinct way that they say words with an "oh" sound, like home, phone, zone, etc. Kind of hard to describe it through text but it almost sounds like they pronounce all words with an "oh" sound as "oa" instead and drag the sound out. Like "home" would rhyme with "loan"...poor description probably but like I said it's hard to illustrate through text. Anyway, when I went home for winter break freshman year, I was saying my "oh" sounds like he does and didn't even notice until my mother said something to me.
