We made it to the front page! Happy International Women's day!

I mean, it is cringe that they think this. But what's more cringe/worse is the percentage of (Muslim and Christian) Lebanese fathers who (while probably not caring what their daughters wear) are actively interested in controlling their sex lives/preserving their virginity. Even more cringe is the preposterous idea from Lebanese culture that "blood"/ethnic identity comes from men only, which is a pseudoscientific excuse to prevent women from marrying non-Lebanese men, lest the kids lose their citizenship. I have a "Lebanese" girlfriend who is studying in the US. I use scare quotes because she isn't considered Lebanese (though she looks Lebanese from her mother, and of course, since it's the country where she grew up, identifies as Lebanese culturally) and has no rights in her country, because her dad is Palestinian and genes/cultural identity come only from men according to the Lebanese culture and government.

You're not Lebanese, we don't care about your opinions about issues regarding Lebanon, and Lebanon only. If your girlfriend wants to give her opinion, she can do so herself.

You don't want to come off as a preposterous foreigner criticizing Lebanon, yet end up as one because of you not understanding context.

The Lebanese citizenship law has nothing to do with misogyny/ethnicity/genetics/whatever, the reason it's in place is for the demographic stability. Why keep the demographic stability? To avoid a civil war.

Do not get yourself into matters which do not concern you and do not understand.
