It’s “everything you see” for the majority of people in the US and on this sub that are unfamiliar with and uneducated in regards to this type of lifestyle. I didn’t grow up religious, but one side of my family is extremely religious. It is glaringly obvious to me that many of the people on this sub have minimal information about what growing up in communities like this really is like. What I’m trying to say is that it’s only “everything you see” because you don’t see that far. No one really looks that deep into this stuff because it is so easy to hate on this lifestyle. I agree that it can be hugely problematic. But, some people here read an article or two and think they have seen inside and are justified in saying such nasty stuff. It’s so outrageous because if I came at any other religion like some people here come at Christianity I would be attacked like crazy. In my tiny personal opinion all organized religion is pretty bonkers, but the best thing we can do is let people live their own lives. Jewish, atheist, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, whatever.
