Magic's got me struggling, needing draft help (X-Post from magicTCG)

Agree on sabertooth over lightform. Sabertooth is one of the 4 Mythic Uncommons in the set. Lightform is merely "quite good" (and normally, I wouldn't be unhappy to pick lightform second.) It's worth noting that Archfiend into either lightform or sabertooth does put us in enemy colors (which is good - we get access to high powered enemycolor common spells and we have more options if we want to go into a clan) but leaves us with strict color requirements (double color requirements in both spells)

  • P1P3 - Yeah, take the powerful card and not the grizzly bear.
  • P1P4 - Both are fine. If we took sabertooth, we're going to be taking Gloom here anyway.
  • P1P5 - I disagree - Dragon Bell Monk is a stinker too. Take Grim Contest, at least it's powerful and we wouldn't be surprised to play it.
  • P1P7 - If we took the earlier Grim Contest, passing this one for a creature would be more defensible IMO.\
  • P1P8 - you didnt mention anything here, but I don't like Map the Wastes - it feels like a banner with a color requirement to me. 3 mana is too much to pay for mana acceleration in ANY deck. Also, the bolster on this often misses if you T3 this, and if you're drawing this late, bolster 1 isn't huge and drawing an accel spell is also not good late. You can't even cut a land for this because it's 3 mana. Take Hewed Stone Retainers - they're quite good if you end up aggressive (which you might, if you end up in BW warriors from this point going forward?)
  • P1P9 - Hooded Assassin is fine. I'm more inclined to put the +1/+1 counter on it, the 'kill a damaged creature' is actually really restrictive. This guy's best in abzan, as you tend to have creatures with big butts (making the kill ability useful) and you might get +1/+1 counter lords (batteries included on this guy)
  • P1P10 - I'd honestly take the land here. Alesha's Vanguard is a junker.
  • P1P13 - pretty happy to see one of these still in the pack. At this point we really know we want to be B/G - not many white cards came late, we should tread carefully on white - if P2 hooks us up with good white, that's fine, but if we don't see white in P2 then we should not expect to see any P3.
