Most rail riders aren't really like this. Greg and his crew give them a bad name. I was at the rail on Saturday. The way it is supposed to work is that you sit in line, and then Bill the head of Phish security let's people walk single file, and people who were there first get their spots. That seems more than fair to me. Greg and his crew were really the only "lay down a 20X20 tarp and fuck you" people in the rail riding "family" of people who do it constantly. And yes, people do save space with blankets and stuff for friends later on, and I do think that's fair too, because they put in the time to be the first ones there. There were people sitting in line at the concert grounds for upwards to 5 hours before noon on Saturday! Those people deserve a spot they want. I'm sorry if you don't feel that way, but I think it's fair to want some space that you waited a long time for. And furthermore, on Saturday it didn't go down like that, a bunch of assholes showed up 10 minutes before noon and crashed the gate when Bill never showed up (helping Mike tour the grounds), and regular Watkins security couldn't wrangle them in. The people who waited for hours and hours got seriously fucked.

So who's the real prick there? The people who patiently wait for upwards to a total of 9 hours before music starts, and all fairly walk single file to their spots so that they can ensure they and their friends are there and have some space, or the people who decide "well fuck them they don't own the band!" And elbow their way up to the front 30 minutes before showtime, or crash the concert grounds gate and run up, shoving people out of the way to get their close spot?
