The maker of modern India

Never forget Discovery of India, I don't have words to describe that literal masterpiece.

He had this unique character of being a part of the problem and being a critic about it the same time. He saw Indian Independence as a wider movement of Asian insurgence, and had the vision of a world citizenship. He started his dream of having 40 Indian International Embassy. With NAM, American and European neo Imperial minds feared their wisdom being challenged by a new champion of world politics.

He advocated universal adult franchise as early as 1938, while leaders of most development countries were reluctantly considering that Idea. His idea of socialism was what a country needed at its inception, even during the inflation that affects world markets we stand firm on our PSU's. In our neighbourhood India is the only country that can boast of a political stability and sustained democracy from Independence, and we do owe Nehru a lot for that, especially since everyone was predicting immediate balkanization of India. National Planning Committee, Indian Statistical Institute, Indian Economic Service were birth of his vision. Nehru cabinet was keen on representation of every sector in governance of India, ministries were offered to people in opposition as well.

He indeed was a world figure, wherever he went crowd followed him. Venue of his address in Russia had to be moved to a bigger area because of the crowd that came to see him. Mikhail Gorbachev was one among them, who came to hear Nehru, bunking his class.

What we often forget is that everyone has got flaws and failures, and If we try to understand them with their shortcomings, it gives a better picture. I understand the political propaganda behind demeaning his legacy, but it is a very sorry excuse to ignore his legacy.
