Making fun of a fat person at the gym is like making fun of a homeless person at a job fair.

No it is not. Your logic is flawed. Let me fix the comparison for you:

Making fun of an obese person at the gym is like making fun of a years-long homeless person who wastes their savings then 'finally' decides to make a change in their life by getting a job, and then, they do that job very lazily and wrongly and then quit.

I do not particularly laugh at obese persons in gyms, or anywhere else, but I never shamed anyone who laughs at them. I strictly prevent them from being recorded, or abused, but laughing is not forbidden.

THIS IS A SPORT, just like any sport or activity, we laugh at amateurs, just like we laugh at noobs in videogames, we laugh at bad surfers, bad bikers, bad swimmers, bad guitar players, bad tennis players, especially fat tennis players who accidentally flip and roll around... Even fit bodybuilders who do amateur or stupid things are frequently laughed at.

Stop being so egotistic and unsocial. Being laughed at for sucking is completely normal and healthy, and you know what? you should laugh at yourself too if you're an obese person who finally joins the gym and sucks at performing every single exercise, you should laugh at yourself for being so weak and wobbly. No one hates you bro, everyone is being friendly, and if you need help, those who laugh at/with you will actually be the first ones to help at any request, they will be the first ones to encourage you, and the first ones to cheer you up while you make progress.

Don't expect to just suck as much as you want and no one looks or laughs at you, not everyone is insecure or unsocial, they're just being themselves and having a good time. You can at any time turn and say "hey don't laugh at me! you should instead pity or sympathize with me, and respect me for changing my life, and hold your laugh every time my belly flops or I drop a dumbbell or do anything noobish because that's mean..." but then you are just being the jerk.

If you are so sensitive, then I am afraid your shape was not the only thing ruined by your lifestyle, it was your social health too. Luckily for you, working out can fix both, you can start making good progress in no time and improve toward a better version of yourself. Just be happy and never quit!
