Making the rounds on Academic Twitter

Meanwhile in other professions, there can be no people who can't do the job. i.e if you can't code, you won't get a programming job. But in teaching, if you can't teach at all, you can still get a job for 50 years or however long you want.

It is because teaching is subjective if you are not a great teacher. Only great teachers can make 95% of the class understand a concept. And they are like literally 1 or 2 in a local area. They are rare.

I have my newfound respect for teachers as soon as I graduated. It is so hard to get jobs, learn skills and stuffs. Teaching is at least sth a hope for many of those who aren't able to do anything else in life. I am at the same position where I have failed in almost everything and I am considering to be a teacher.

But points stand. If teachers can't teach properly, they should be preparing their study materials properly that if you read them rigorously, you eventually figure out the concept. But in Nepal, teachers don't even do that.

We are all on our own. 50 subjects in 4 years and I didn't have a single great teacher in my college.
