Male baby chicks are ground alive for the sole fact that they can't lay eggs. Vegans are not extremist--being vegan is a normal reaction to a world where this happens. Let's get this to r/all

I appreciate you not using the term humane. I've always had a strange feeling seeing the term "humane" used in this context as it is on many of the comments on YouTube or on Reddit. Especially when it is phrased as "humanely slaughtered" or "humanely harvested." The definitions of humane that I've come across typically have to do with compassion, sympathy, and consideration which seems to be about as far removed from what we see in videos like these as possible. Sure, it could certainly be worse and involve extended suffering, but conveyor belting living non-human animals into a meat grinder, at least to me, does not seem humane.

There's a small family farm on the way up to a local ski area, and they have signs that read "humanely raised" which I feel less disturbed by(from a pedantic vocabulary standpoint), as they are not implying that slaughter is inherently capable of being humane.
