Man comes in with a metal bar and proceeds to smash an Asian-owned convenience store while allegedly spewing racial slurs and other verbally abusive things in North Carolina.

Generally, there is no problem with that. You spend time and identify with people that you like. Could be your local church, your family, your neighborhood, your football team or whatever.

What is absolutely disgusting is pushing skin color/race into this discussion. I think (this is what I experienced) that people are WAY past that point. Skin color is nothing you can choose and it says nothing about who you are and what you stand for. There are cool people and idiots of every skin color.

Anyway, what is disgusting is how the media, politicians and a very vocal minority (I hope it's just a minority) are trying to sow hatred by reviving this group think that groups people according to their skin color and discriminates based in skin color.

Hell, we have now reached a point where universities teach you that only white people can be racists, that white people should feel sorry for the crimes that were commited by people of their skin color centuries ago, that all bad in the world was caused by white people, and generally that white people historically mostly did bad stuff and are really worse than everyone else.

All of this is stupid nonsense. But since it is taught to people during the time where they can be influenced the most, more and more people start accepting these outrageous claims as true without questioning them, because doing so would lead to social pressure and public shame.
