Man confronts cop who killed his brother

I read what you linked here to my point about shooting someone multiple times in the back being vunjustified, but I don't see how someone "facing away from an officer poses a significant threat of death or serious physical injury to the officer or others." I hope that somebody with police training or more education on that topic could extrapolate for me.

As for the car, many people used that car. He was just using it that night.

I didn't expect a mobile crisis unit to deescalate what that turned into. I said that's what he needed. The body cam footage that was released does not start from the beginning of the encounter, so when you say that you thought that I was saying to deescalate when it was already getting out of control, that's not what I meant.

You mentioned wanting sources but like I said there was stuff that wasn't released to the public and I can't really give you sources. I know that that makes it more difficult to believe me and how I came to my conclusions.

This is how it was explained by the police officers. The police saw the vehicle sitting in a parking lot and went over there to talk to him because he and his friends are known to the police. If, as many people are calling for, they were better trained they would have realized that he was in crisis. Perhaps then they could have had someone who was better trained intervene. The people in the car weren't doing anything illegal and did not start out being a threat, so I do feel that it would have been safe to involve others into the situation at that point.

I would feel the same if it were you who were killed by police in this situation. I don't think here should never be a situation where a police officer or a person they'e approaching is killed by another. This is a failure of our system and things just need to change at a fundamental level. I hope that at the very least that's something that we can agree on.

I realize that I have bias in this situation, so if you have different perceptions then I understand how that could happen. You mentioned that he bluffed that he had a gun when they were in the parking lot but I didn't see that so if you could point it out I would appreciate it. But also with your response please remember that this is a loved one that that I watched grow up since he was 6 that we're talking about and being harsh and implying that he deserved to die is extremely hurtful. I know that's not what you mean but it's hard not to read it that way so that's why I mentioned being more sensitive about it. I do appreciate that you took the time to respond and I will take what you said into consideration to try to limit my bias and see this situation more objectively.

In the end I can see why people who are personal to cases tend to stay out of discussing it online. It is highly emotional and I probably shouldn't have said anything. It's just that it's hard to accept that his death could have been in any way justified when there are protests about other people who are killed by cops and the general public is agreeing that the the altercation could have been de-escalated without any deaths. Why were people upset about George Floyd or Darian Hunt but not Cody? They could all be alive if the situations were handled better.

And you're right we all need to be the change. I actually contacted the Brown Berets last year to get involved in activism and I hope that a lot of other people have been inspired to be more active and raise their voice.

Sorry if this is hard to read I'm doing speech to text on my mobile
