A man was detained at the Canadian border for refusing to give up his phone password

And are you trying to imply that catching people with child porn doesn't stop child porn from being distributed?

I am implying that the data should be freely available to demonstrate that searching cell phones at borders has a positive impact at bringing down the amount of cp suspected to be distributed.

If you want to claim that searching phones at the border is why things are getting better on that end, show us the data to back it up, otherwise stop pulling shit out of your ass.

Don't ask for evidence

Seriously?

You think that we are going to change federal law for some fucking TV cameras, are you fucking high on crack?

No I'm not, you like to keep bringing up the TV show don't you, must make you feel real special.

so yes a TV show on this 100% is evidence and if you don't like it, I guess there isn't really any point in talking to you anymore if you aren't going to listen.

I'm listening.

And asking questions you aren't answering.

If you want to make a sufficient argument to take away peoples privacy en mass just so they can experience Canada(or fucking go home for that matter), we need data, not TV shows, not mine or your personal opinions. I don't give a fuck who you work for, your experience and knowledge alone doesn't justify a first world country basing its policy on suspicion and getting lucky enough sometimes with the outcome of its increasingly bad attitude to say "SEE I TOLD YOU SO" on TV.

Alas, there are risks to be looked at, harm to be prevented.

What you are missing here is that people FUCKING VALUE their privacy. I am trying to make a counter-point to some things you said, without being accused of being a drug addict. In your mind these processes are in place to prevent things like cp from being distributed(if you weren't serious, then you probably shouldn't say it), drugs from being distributed, non-approved immigrants from entering, etc.

You can't put drugs or physical goods in your cell phone data to smuggle them.

I am asking for data, not videos of shit happening, because I bet you anything the whole search everyone's laptop and cell phone data shit is completely unjustified when considering the statistics. In the public eye this is policy based purely on suspicion and when acted upon is seen as bullying.

The only thing I am not including in my argument is the need to confirm the validity of intentions when it comes to foreigners entering, but if we can't find a legitimate way to do this without invading their privacy I feel like we are throwing the baby out with the bath water.

I am NOT claiming to be intelligent enough to find a better way.

We can just keep going down this road forever, finding reasons to hate each other, not solving the problems that are clearly in front of us, but nothing is going to be accomplished without data.

Since it is so hard to come by, let alone have any evidence of existing in the first place, my money is on nobody is even trying to figure it out.

The whole "guilty until proven guilty" and "think of the children" approaches were old a long fucking time ago.
