Man this episode was awesome

even sharp sticks, the old panicked "oh shit I didn't mean that, you're ok! You're ok! We dont have to tell mom! Stop crying, you can poke me back! Im sorry, i'm sorry!" is pretty much universal.

I remember being a kid and playing this game once (poor native kids on a reservation without many toys) where we'd lob these huge brick sized pieces of sharp concrete up in the air and try to arc them down to hit each other like some kind of mix between real life battleship and a snowball fight. We got lucky with usually only the smaller ones landing because we weren't strong enough to properly arc the bigger ones. The first time one hit one of us the kid that got hit started crying and had a huge bruise on his shoulder so we decided huh we should protect ourselves a bit. We go inside and put on a bunch of layers of clothing and like a mix of halloween masks, a single hockey mask and one lucky kid owned a bike helmet. The lucky kid with the bike helmet gave us some confidence because he took a properly arched big one to the head that had been tossed like a damn shotput. It cracked the helmet in half and the force of it caused the helmet to dig into his head a bit and cause a laceration above his right eye and hurt his neck. He immediately went home and told his drug addicted parents who then accused all of us of picking on him as if we all ganged up and were just throwing rocks at him. We were all covered in bruises already from head to toe but as punishment we all pretty much got respectively beaten for it except for one of us whose parents were essentially never there.

I remember going to school and CPS calling us in one by one to try the usual of getting us to admit our parents beat us but this time they were taking photos and freaking out because of the severity and unusualness of like 7 of us all at once just looking like we'd been hit by trains those people were so confused and just couldn't accept that we'd thrown these huge blocks of concrete at each other like we did. As I type this out I realize this story sounds more sad than funny and all but to us at the time it was sort of hilarious how it all played out. In normal circumstances they'd have been right about our parents causing bruises and all but the one time we weren't just covering for our parents drunken or drug induced abuse they still didnt believe us. I remember the CPS lady crying her eyes out saying "they're getting creative with the excuses Tom! We have to do something about this!" Then she heard me laugh at that and i remember just seeing the look on her face just sort of turn to this sort of even deeper sadness that made me feel awful about all of it.

Kids are crazy little sociopaths.
