Man rescued from Taliban: I thought my captors were kidding when they said Trump was president

I know this phenomenon personally.

I received a serious brain injury a little while back (2-5 years? ...IIRC)

I have moderate anterograde amnesia (Memento, 50 first dates), with distant memories remaining well preserved.

So I remember the past much better than the present, and it is a struggle to stay oriented.

4-10 times a day, I forget that I am brain injured at all, and have it all explained to me.

At this point, somebody has to explain to me what has happened, what is going on, and... Current events.

Usually I regain recall and orientation within seconds or minutes, but occasionally, it can take a couple hours.

I swear I am going to have someone videotape the next time a doctor tries to explain the current state of the world, as a way of proving it is 2017.

Somehow... They always come off less credible than when they started talking.

TL;DR I have brain damage, and have to have the last few years explained to me, on a regular basis.

Special thanks to my friend for typing and formatting help
